The Time System

The Audi Design Quattro by Certina watch came on market in 1983 and was a cooperation between Audi and Certina on the occasion of the formation of the company "quattro GmbH" in the same year. The model was available only in Germany and was probably offered to vendees of an Audi Quattro to a preferential price. It could be that the watch was limited to 1'000 pieces each. I couldn't verify that until now. The design of the watch came from Audi Design.

The watch was delivered as a set in a black leather box with a grey inlay. With the so-called "das Zeit-System" (The Time System) set, the watch could be attached to various bracelets or cords, and thus worn on your wrist or hung around the neck. In addition to the two leather straps and the metal band, also a cord and a leather strap were supplied (see picture on the left).

The watchcase was available black titanium carbide coated or in stainless steel. There was a version with a black and one with a white dial available. At least today, it seems that the black one is more common. The red "quattro" writing is printed to the inner side of the sapphire glass. The design of the chrono pushers is very markedly and, at a first glance they look like a crown guard. Inside the watch the well-known Valjoux 7750 chronograph movement is working with a unsigned rotor.
